Dr Fred Klenner Vitamin C
Many of you who come to the clinic to take chelation treatments, but some of you take Klenner Bottles. In this article, I would like talk about where that name came from and how we use them in our practice, as well as how we combine them with other therapies.
Origin of the Name
The late Frederick Klenner, M.D., was a pioneering physician who in the 1930s and 1940s (the days before penicillin was discovered) used very high doses (20 to 50 grams; Note 50 grams is equivalent to half a bottle of C Macs 1000) of vitamin C intravenously in patients with viral infections. These were the days when polio and influenza ravaged the population because there was nothing that could be done. Dr. Klenner practiced in the small town of Reidsville, N.C., and may actually be the first alternative-medicine practitioner in history. To his honor, we appropriately name our high-dose vitamin C bottles the Klenner Bottle
How it Works
The function of vitamin C is to activate an enzyme in the white blood cell, called myeloperoxidase. The enzyme main function is to produce hydrogen peroxide (which gives rise to the highly energetic and bactericidal and viradical hydroxy free radical), which makes the white cells Super Killers as far as bacteria and viruses are concerned.
Current Use
Currently, we use Klenner Bottles in many viral conditions, including but not limited to Epstein Bar Virus, which causes mononucelosis and has been implicated in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome; Hepaatitis A and, to a lesser extent, hepatitis B and C. In Influenza our COPD (emphysema) patients come in at the first sniffle and taken a Klenner Bottle; West Nile Virus has also been helped with this treatment. The late Hugh Riordan, M.D., of the Garvey Center in Wichita, KS, wrote a paper on the RENCAC (which stands for Renal Carcinoma and Vitamin C) which he successfully used very high does of vitamin C intravenously (upwards of 60 grams) in patients with renal (kidney) cancer.
Kleener Bottles and Hyperbaric Oxygen
This unique combination appears to work well in patients who have viruses that affect the central nervous system, the most prevalent one in this area being West Nile Virus. The Klenner Bottles appear to make the condition less severe, but by the time it is diagnosed, there has already been some neurological damage done. We have, in the past, used hyperbaric oxygen in patients who have had brain damage from encephalitis and strokes. Now, by combining these two therapies and using nutritional supplements that help repair nerves, we appear to have a triple whammy that is effective at treating West Nile Virus.
In conclusion, to Dr Fred Klenner, we and our patients thank you as one of the first explorers in the field of alternative medicine.
